Description
The Smithy in Ednam is an early 19th-century building that originally served as a smithy. It is a single-storey structure with a rectangular plan and a symmetrical design. The main part of the building features a gabled central section with three bays, flanked by two slightly lower wings that have piend roofs, each with two bays. The exterior is finished with harled and washed masonry, and there are thin sandstone ashlar margins around the doors and windows of the central section.
The principal elevation faces south and includes a central timber-boarded door with windows on either side. The west wing has a central door and flanking windows on its west end, while the east wing has an opening on its east elevation that serves as a vehicle entrance.
The windows predominantly feature small-pane glazing set in metal frames. The building has ashlar-coped skews, a coped brick stack, and is roofed with graded grey slate.
