Description
100, 102, and 104 Ettrick Terrace is a mid-19th century, symmetrical, two-storey house or tenement built over a basement, featuring three bays. The building is constructed from squared and snecked grey whinstone rubble, with light grey sandstone ashlar used for the long and short quoins and dressings. There is a central shopfront and an early extension at the rear.
On the northwest elevation, there is a central door flanked by a later inserted window, accessed by six stone steps that lead up to a stone arch over an open moat. The shopfront is simply designed with a stone face and a cornice, with windows in the remaining bays.
The southwest elevation is made of whinstone rubble and has irregular fenestration, with a double-pitched extension at the rear. The entrance features a panelled timber door with a plain rectangular fanlight. The basement has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, while the ground floor has modern glazing. The first floor contains 2-pane sash and case windows, and there are 4-pane windows on the side elevation. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has ashlar skews, with brick wallhead stacks and clay cans. Most of the rainwater goods are modern, with a cast iron hopper on the southwest side.
There are cast iron railings leading to the steps and moat, which sit on a stone dwarf wall. A stone depressed arch provides access to the steep rear garden.
