Description

Anderson's Chambers is a former warehouse building from the later 19th century, now used as offices. It stands two to three stories tall and features a three by ten bay layout. The structure is made of squared sandstone, with rusticated sides and rear, and ashlar dressings. It is prominently located next to Market Street bridge, facing the main route into Galashiels town centre and oriented northwest to southeast. The building has a base course and an eaves band course with a dentil course on the northwest elevation, along with banded ashlar window surrounds.

The front (northwest) elevation is symmetrical and two stories high, featuring a central pilastered and corniced doorway topped with wrought iron cresting. The windows are arranged in bipartite and tripartite configurations.

The side elevations (southwest and northeast) have regular fenestration, with bays grouped in a pattern of 3-1-3-1-2. Each elevation includes two pedimented bays that contain tripartite windows. The northeast elevation has a modern porch and a wide rectangular doorway, indicating later alterations.

The windows throughout the building consist of plate glass and four-pane timber sash and case designs. The roof is covered with purple slate and features two shouldered and corniced wallhead stacks.

Inside, while the warehouse areas have been modernized, they still showcase their original construction with cast iron columns and timber floors. The office section retains original joinery and includes a formal timber stair with turned balusters.

Additionally, there are gate piers with chamfered edges, an iron lamp standard, and a wrought iron gate. A sandstone dwarf wall with cast iron railings runs along the void on the northeast elevation.
