Description
Fogo Bridge is a single span, round-arched bridge that dates back to 1641 and was rebuilt in 1843. It spans the Blackadder Water and is constructed from harl-pointed sandstone rubble with polished sandstone dressings and polished, chamfered coping. The outer elevations feature central arches with raised voussoir surrounds, and there are sandstone corbels beneath the parapets. The bridge includes continuous string courses and a carved sandstone plaque on the north side that is dated. The approach wall to the northwest is splayed, while the remaining walls step out at either end. At each end of the bridge, there are squat, coursed sandstone, square-plan terminating piers topped with shallow pyramidal caps.
