Description
Eye View in Grantshouse is a house dated 1859, with later additions and alterations. It is a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay structure featuring a single-storey porch on the outer left, which serves as a shop entrance, and a two-storey addition at the rear, along with a single-storey addition recessed to the outer right. The front is constructed with part rake-jointed whinstone and has droved cream sandstone dressings, while the sides are finished with whitewashed harl and painted margins. The building features long and short quoins and surrounds to the openings, with projecting cills throughout.
On the south elevation, there is a timber panelled door centered at the ground level, flanked by single windows. The first floor has single windows in all bays. The porch on the outer left has a mono-pitched roof, which is out of character with the rest of the building, and includes a timber door with a plate glass fanlight. The recessed single-storey addition is located on the outer right.
The windows are predominantly plate glass timber sash and case, with some featuring 12-pane glazing at the front. There is a modern window at the ground level on the outer left, which serves the shop front. The roof is covered with grey slate and has stone-coped skews, while the apex stacks are brick-built, though the cans are missing.
The garden is enclosed by low coped whinstone walls at the front, creating a defined outdoor space. The interior was not seen in 1999.
