Description
The Weaving Factory located at 66-74 Mill Street in Selkirk is a later 19th-century building that has undergone various additions and alterations. It is a three-storey, six-bay structure situated on rising ground to the southeast. The exterior is constructed of whinstone rubble, which is painted on the first and second floors as well as the rear, with brick dressings and droved ashlar lintels and cills.
On the northwest elevation, there is a window in each bay of the upper two storeys, with taller windows in two bays on the outer left at the first floor. A flush panelled door is located in the bay to the inner right, while the outer right features two windows per bay. There is a window at the ground level of the bay to the inner left, and a boarded door in the penultimate left bay with a narrow fanlight above. Additionally, there is a two-leaf boarded garage door at ground level on the outer left.
The southeast elevation is two storeys high and has doors at ground level in the bays to the inner right and outer right. There is also a door at the first floor of the outer left bay, which is accessed by a modern iron forestair.
The building features a variety of windows, including 12-pane timber sash and case windows on the first floor and ground level of the northwest elevation, with modern glazing present on the second floor. The roof is slate, and there are brick stacks at the apex. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1996.
