Description
7 Tea Street in Galashiels is a row of traditional cottages dating from the early 19th century, with later additions. The building is single storey and consists of two and three bays, featuring single and bipartite windows. There are later extensions and boxed and piended dormer windows at the rear, along with a steeply sloped garden ground. The exterior is made of painted rendered rubble stonework, with a mixture of droved sandstone and concrete margins.
Cottages numbered 1, 3, 5, and 9 have two bays with bipartite mullioned windows, while numbers 7 and 11 have three bays, each with a central door flanked by single windows. The west gable is plain, with a window to the right and a gateway in the adjoining boundary wall that surrounds the rear gardens.
The cottages feature 2- and 4-pane timber sash and case windows, as well as panelled timber doors with fanlights at numbers 7 and 11. Numbers 1, 3, 5, and 9 have later 20th century 4-pane timber sash and case windows and part-glazed doors. The roofs have some stone skews and square plain ridge stacks with circular clay cans, covered with small grey slates, and the rainwater goods are made of cast iron and aluminium.
