Description

The Mercat Cross in the Old Town of Galashiels dates back to 1695 and has undergone restorations in 1887 and 1987. It features a corniced octagonal shaft made of red sandstone, topped with a squared ball finial sundial. This is set on a three-stage stepped and shouldered base plinth. Additionally, there are bronze plaques from the 1930s created by George Hope Tait.
