Description
North Lodge at Kimmerghame House is a single-storey, L-plan lodge built in 1835 by George Smith, featuring Tudor-Gothic details. The structure is made of coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and chamfered arrises. It has a base course and stone mullions. The entrance elevation has two bays, with a stone gabled porch on the right that is slightly recessed, featuring a four-centre-arched lintel and a timber door, along with an arrowslit in the gablehead. A ball finial marks the entrance step, and a thistle finial is also present. To the left, there is a broader gabled bay with a four-light canted window topped by a slated piend roof.
The left return showcases two advanced gabled panels with bipartite windows and arrowslits in the gableheads. The rear elevation includes substantial flat-roofed modern additions, which are screened from public view by earlier walls. The lodge features lying-pane timber glazing patterns in sash and case windows with pointed heads. The roof is covered in graded grey slate, with ashlar coped skews and bracketed skewputts. There are diamond-set stacks at the gablehead and ridge intersections, complete with deep coping, as well as pyramidal and thistle finials. A decorative rainwater head is located to the left of the entrance.
