Description

Barns House is a small Georgian mansion located on the south bank of the Tweed River. It was built by James Burnet of Barns between 1773 and 1780, replacing an earlier house. The exterior features harled walls with quoins, and the building stands two stories tall on a sunk basement that includes a railed area. The central pediment is adorned with three ornamental urn finials, and the roof is piended. The porch is supported by four Ionic columns. At the rear, there is a central bowed projection that extends to full height, while the basement is exposed as a ground floor. Additionally, a lower wing has been added to one side of the house.
