Description

The Walled Garden at Sundhope Farmhouse is an early 19th-century structure that may include earlier materials. It is a two-storey, three-bay traditional farmhouse, finished with harled walls, droved raised quoins, and stone margins, featuring quoin strips on the porch.

The northwest entrance elevation is symmetrical, with the central bay at ground level featuring a ball-finialled gabled porch that includes a window and a boarded timber door to the left, along with another window to the right. The flanking bays have windows, and there is regular fenestration near the eaves on the first floor.

The southwest elevation has a gabled design with a window in the left bay at ground level. The southeast rear elevation shows a variety of alterations, including a broad gabled projection on the right and a low lean-to bay on the left with a piended projection at the outer left. The northeast elevation features a gabled bay on the right with two ground-level windows and another window to the left on the first floor, while the lower set-back bays on the left display asymmetrical fenestration.

The windows are timber sash and case, featuring 8-, 9-, and 12-pane patterns, as well as plate glass glazing. The roof covering is modern, and there are harled stacks with cans and ashlar-coped skews.

An ancillary building is located nearby, constructed in a rectangular plan of rubble with a corrugated roof, a boarded timber door to the southeast, and a small high window to the northwest.

The walled garden to the west is semicircular-coped and made of rubble, featuring a segmental-arched entrance to the northwest. The boundary walls are constructed of random rubble.
