Description

The building is an early 19th-century village hall, with later additions and alterations. It is a two-story, three-bay building flanked by two-bay, single-story wings, forming part of a wider terrace. The main section is pebbledashed with droved ashlar margins, and is rendered on the three-bay group. The rear projection is sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. A further, modern, single-story pebbledash addition is located to the rear of the left-hand bay of the southern wing.

The southwest elevation features a single-story porch projection to the centre, with a panelled door. There is a coped ashlar wallhead, and an original-sized window at the first floor above the porch. A window is present on each floor of the bay to the left, with a gabled dormerhead over the enlarged first-floor window. The bay to the right incorporates a three-light canted window at ground level, and an enlarged first-floor window with a dormerhead. The two-bay group to the right has point-arched windows with hoodmoulds to each bay. The two-bay group to the left has a boarded door in the right-hand bay, with a two-pane fanlight above, and a bipartite window with a timber mullion in the left-hand bay.

The northeast elevation has a single-story lean-to addition off-centre to the left, with a ground-floor window in each bay. A partly-revealed first-floor window is located centrally. The bay to the right is advanced with a ground-floor window flanked to the left by a smaller window; and a first-floor window that breaks the eaves with a gabled dormerhead above. The two-bay group to the left has a half-piended projection to each bay, and a boarded door to the outer right of the right-hand bay. A modern single-story addition is to the left, with several small windows near the eaves. A bipartite window is present on the northwest return elevation, alongside a now gabled, former shouldered wallhead stack. A window is located to the left of the projection on the southeast return elevation, and a boarded door is on the outer left.

A variety of window types are incorporated, including four-pane, twelve-pane timber sash and case windows, and timber point-arched sash and case windows, some with traceried upper sashes. The roof is slate, with large skylights to the southwest of the southeast two-bay section and to the southeast pitch of the left projection to the rear. Ashlar coped skews are present. Gablehead stacks are located on the three-bay group and the left-hand two-bay group. An asymmetrical pyramidal skylight tops the porch projection. A roof vent in an ogee shape is visible on the ridge of the right-hand two-bay group and on the ridge of the right projection to the rear.

The interior of the building was not inspected in 1996.
