Description
Good Templar Halls, located at 4 Dyers Wynd in Paisley, was built in 1881 and underwent an interior renovation in 1981. This three-storey building serves as offices and meeting halls. The east elevation, facing Terrace Buildings, features a five-bay Italian Renaissance design constructed from ashlar stone. The central doorway, which has been converted into a tripartite window, is round-arched and flanked by banded pilasters on pedestals. Similar pilasters divide the bays, although the left bay has been altered, and they extend through the first floor at angles. There is a cill course at the ground floor with a pediment above the central bay. The first-floor windows are adorned with a blind balustrade and a cill course, while the windows themselves are architraved with consoled pediments that alternate between triangular and segmental shapes. A moulded string course runs above, and there is a cill course at the second floor, which is bracketted below lugged architraved windows. The building also features panelled angle pilasters and a bracketted eaves cornice, topped with a balustrade that includes dies and urns. The roof is slate-covered.
The north elevation consists of ten bays with a basement that increases in height towards the east. It is made of squared rubble with ashlar dressings. There is a segmentally headed doorway on the east side and various flat-headed doors. On the west side, three panelled pilasters support brackets and a fretted balcony, and there is a variety of glazing throughout the building.
