Gardener's Cottages And Walled Garden, Ballathie House

Gardener's Cottages and Walled Garden at Ballathie House is a late 19th century range of single-storey and attic cottages located to the north of a large contemporary walled kitchen garden. The main cottages form an L-plan layout, with a single-storey and attic section to the northeast featuring modern box dormer windows flanking original cast-iron skylights. The southeast elevation, which overlooks the River Tay, has single-storey and attic sections with original gabletted dormers. The cottages are constructed of brown sandstone rubble and have slated roofs with overhanging bracketed eaves. There is timber detailing, including a porch at the northeast entrance, and a variety of windows, with the original windows being multi-paned timber sash and case. The eaves and fascia boards of the gables have red-painted timber brackets, and there are brick stacks. Some recent alterations have been made. The walled garden features red brick walls with a masonry cope, along with decorative cast and wrought iron gates and railings. There is an extensive and very complete range of mid to late 19th century greenhouses along the northeast wall at Gardener's Cottages, which include original cast-iron decorative cresting and finials.
