Description
The Tollhouse in Glenfarg dates from around 1820 and has been extended to the south. It is a single-storey, four-bay building with a rectangular plan, originally serving as a toll house. The canted entrance bay provides views along the former turnpike road from Perth to Milnathort. The building is constructed from dark whinstone ashlar, featuring contrasting droved sandstone dressings. It has a shallow base course, a jerkinhead roof, and diamond-aligned stacks, with set-back aprons on the original principal elevation windows.
The original structure consists of three symmetrical bays, with a central door and windows on either side. The southern extension includes a tripartite window, while a small stone lean-to is present on the northern elevation. The windows are fitted with plate glass glazing in double-glazed replacement timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the building features coped ashlar stacks with cans and deeply overhanging eaves.
