Description

10 Dalry Road in Beith is a two-storey, three-bay villa built around 1870 by a builder named Snodgrass. The villa features Baronial details, including a crowstep-gabled bay on the left with a canted bay window at ground level and a tripartite window above, which has columnettes and a central round-arched window with a triangular hoodmould. On the right, there is a bay with a bipartite window at ground level and a round-arched window with a gabled dormer above. The building has a square, corniced, and crenellated tower at the re-entrant angle, and the entrance door is framed by a roll-moulded surround. The exterior is characterized by a battered base course and is constructed from stugged coursed honey sandstone.

The northeast (rear) elevation has two bays, with a single-storey flat-roofed section in the re-entrant angle to the left and a gabled bay to the right that features a gabled dormer. There is also a single-storey service wing on the right. The southeast elevation shows a crowstep-gabled section to the left with a first-floor bipartite window in a raised panel, and a single-storey flat-roofed bay to the right with another bipartite window. The northwest elevation includes a bay on the right with a gabled wallhead stack, a narrow central bay with a gabled wallhead dormer, and a left bay with a bipartite window at ground level and a window above. There is a single-storey service bay on the outer left with a door and window.

The villa has had some alterations, including the replacement of timber sash and case plate glass windows with UPVC. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are cast iron rainwater goods.

Inside, some original features remain, such as timber panelled doors and plasterwork. The drawing room boasts a white marble Gothic chimneypiece with coloured marble columns, a decorative plaster ceiling, and panelled window embrasures with flanking timber pilasters. The morning room features an oak parquet floor, an interwar scheme of dark wood panelling, and a dark tiled chimneypiece. The former dining room has a ceiling rose, dado, and timber chimneypiece. A timber staircase with a balustrade includes an unusual Gothic timber part-glazed screen, although the glass has been replaced later.
