Description
The stable block at Giffen House, built around 1869, is a single-storey and attic structure arranged in a 'U' shape. It features sneaked and stugged ashlar stonework with ashlar dressings. The entrance to the walled courtyard is marked by gatepiers that have bold caps. Inside the yard, there are two segmental-headed carriage entrances, which have modern glazing, located in the block opposite the gate, along with a door and window to the left. A round stair tower with a conical roof topped with a finial and covered in fish-scale slating is positioned at the right angle. The flanking wings have altered window arrangements. The gables include two ground floor windows and segmental-headed loft entrances that have been altered, featuring re-used cast-iron balconies. The structure also showcases crow-stepped gables and dormer-heads throughout, all under a slate roof.
