Description
38 Francis Street is a mid to late 19th-century double house that stands two stories tall with an attic, featuring a flat front and a two plus two bay layout. It occupies a corner site where the street curves in front of two public buildings. The exterior is made of coursed rubble, consisting of whin and granite, with squared dressings. A continuous hood extends over the paired inner doors, and there is stepped moulding above the ground floor windows, all made of ashlar. The house has modern glazing and a slate roof. The outer bays contain bipartite windows, while the attic features re-glazed piended dormers. The close-spaced inner bays have single windows and skylights, and there are corniced stacks at the ends.
