Description

The driveway bridge at Lews Castle in Stornoway is of uncertain date, possibly from the 18th century, as it may have provided access to the MacKenzie's Seaforth Lodge. Alternatively, it could have been built after 1944, the year Sir James Matheson acquired Lews and began a complete rebuilding of the house and its grounds. The bridge features a plain single archway with an approximate span of 5 feet, constructed from rubble that includes voussoirs. Instead of parapets, it has low ledges.
