Description
The Steading at Windsor House is a building likely designed by William Robertson in Elgin between 1832 and 1835. It is a two-storey house with a raised basement and features three bays. The exterior is constructed of harl pointed rubble with harled flanks, and it has polished ashlar margins and dressings. The center entrance is highlighted by a corniced and pilastered doorpiece, a rectangular fanlight, and a panelled door. There are two windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor in the west gable, all featuring 12-pane glazing. The house has twin coped ridge stacks and a shallow piended slate roof with projecting soffitted eaves.
Inside, the house features slender wooden balusters on the staircases and panelled window shutters.
The steading, also likely designed by William Robertson in 1829, is an L-plan range made of rubble with contrasting tooled ashlar dressings. It is a single-storey and loft structure with four bays, serving as a stable and gighouse. The long elevation faces west and has modern garage doors that close two former gighouse entrances. There are four loft windows with later shutters, and a further single-storey byre range is positioned at right angles. The roofs are piended slate.
The walled garden, dating from 1830, is located between the steading and the house. It features rubble walls topped with tooled ashlar coping.
