Description

Toll Cottage in Alves is a single-storey, three-bay cottage built in 1822, likely by William Robertson. The cottage has a harled exterior with contrasting painted, tooled, and polished ashlar margins and dressings. The central entrance features a simple Roman Doric columned doorpiece, with flanking windows and gable windows, each adorned with later cast cable moulded ogee 'eyebrow' hoodmoulds painted in contrasting colours. The front windows have 4-pane glazing, while the gable windows retain their original 9-pane design. The cottage has a pair of ridge stacks with diamond flues and is topped with a graded piended local slate roof. At the rear, there is a later single-storey wing.
