Gighouse, 96, 98 High Street, Forres

The building at 96 and 98 High Street in Forres is a classical bank constructed in 1839, likely designed by William Robertson from Elgin. The ground floor was remodeled in 1938 by J and W Wittet, also from Elgin, featuring a polished granite facade. The building is three stories tall with five bays, displaying a flat arch to the pend. The first and second floors are made of ashlar stone, while the east gable is harled and the south side is constructed from coursed rubble. The end bays are slightly advanced, and there is a moulded eaves cornice along with architraves around the outer windows. The first floor has 2-pane glazing, and the second floor has 12-pane glazing. The roof is slate, topped with paired coped stacks.

At the rear, there is a single-storey gighouse with a segmental-arched entrance that has been glazed, also made from coursed rubble. This area includes stables and other offices, all covered by a slate roof.
