Description

Deansford is a mid-19th century, two-storey house with a raised basement located on East High Street in Bishopmill, Elgin. The building features three bays with a central door and a wing at the rear. The raised basement and flanks are constructed from tooled coursed rubble, while the front is finished in ashlar with polished ashlar dressings. A tetrastyle portico is positioned at the center, leading to a doorway with a round-headed arch, raised keystone, and a fanlight below.

On the first floor, the central window is adorned with a small console-bracketed wooden pediment. The outer bays feature canted bay windows that extend through both the ground and first floors, with the eastern bay as an oriel supported by decorative corbelling at the raised basement level. The windows have four-pane glazing. The house has deep moulded wooden eaves, corniced end stacks, and a shallow piended slate roof.

At the rear, there is a long multi-pane stair window. The property is enclosed by high rubble garden and retaining walls, which include rusticated piers at intervals topped with tooled copes. Square ashlar gatepiers with moulded copes mark the entrance.
