Description
Burgie Lodge is a two-storey house with a basement, built between 1830 and 1840, possibly designed by architect and builder John Urquhart. Located in Forres, it features a regular three-bay frontage made of whitewashed rubble, with contrasting ashlar margins and dressings. The northern front has a recessed central bay defined by giant ashlar pilasters and a shallow pedimented blocking course at the top. This central area includes a corniced doorway that is accessed by a flight of steps, with a single window above it. On either side, there are raised ground floor rectangular projecting windows topped with corniced wallheads.
At the rear, there is a substantial two-storey wing with an enlarged eastern window, which connects to an early 20th-century single-storey cottage built over a raised basement. The building features varied glazing, ridge and wallhead coped stacks, and piended slate roofs. The interior has little of interest remaining.
