Description
Dated 1841, South Lodge is a single-storey, gabled gate lodge. It has an asymmetrical three-bay west entrance front facing the driveway, and an irregular two-bay south frontage overlooking the road. The lodge is constructed of tooled rubble with tooled ashlar dressings, with some harling to the rear. A slightly advanced gabled porch is located in the outer bay of the northwest front. A wide, advanced bay to the southwest features a canted projecting window with panelled aprons, topped with a stone slab piended roof. A similar projecting canted window with a jerkin-headed gable is present on the south front, alongside a wide, advanced gable at the southeast, fronted by a rectangular projecting window. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with plate glass glazing which likely replaced the original lattice panes. A deep base course is also present. Decorative scrolled bargeboards with turned apex finials and pendants adorn the gables, complemented by coped ridge and wallhead stacks, and slate roofs. The rear displays simplified details, and a modern lean-to extension is visible.
