Gardener's Cottage, Costerton House

The Walled Garden at Costerton House dates from the late 18th century and features a rectangular layout. It has tooled sandstone lower walls and brick upper walls topped with flat stone copes. Attached to the garden is a single-storey lean-to gardener's cottage, which is made of harled and painted rubble.

On the west elevation of the cottage, the entrance door is located off centre to the right, now enclosed within a modern sunroom. There is a small square window to the right and bipartite windows on both the far left and right flanks. The cottage also has small ashlar chimney stacks and projecting neck copes, with a replacement single can. A new bungalow is situated to the southeast elevation.

The north elevation of the cottage features a blank half gable. The east elevation has a small door on the right and a window on the left, with the left side now incorporated into a new structure. The cottage has 4-pane timber sash and case windows and a lean-to slate roof. The rainwater goods have been replaced.

Inside, the cottage has thick stone walls, lower ceilings, and smaller, deeper windows compared to the newer part of the property.

The walled garden's west elevation, now the principal elevation, consists of a high brick and stone wall with a small wooden door to the left, featuring ashlar surrounds and old metal door furniture. To the right is a new wrought-iron entrance gate, with a replacement stone wall adjoining the older cottage.

The north elevation of the garden is a high brick and stone wall with flat ashlar copes. The east elevation features a high brick wall with stone copes and a modern sliding metal gate located off centre to the left. The south elevation consists of a rubble wall with stone copes, which has been partially demolished at the west end to accommodate the modern bungalow.
