Description
South Lodge, situated at Keith Marischal, likely dates to around 1889 and may incorporate elements of an earlier lodge. The design is probably by Peddie and Kinnear, the architects working on the main house at the time. It is a single-story building with a square plan. The lodge is externally finished with white-painted harling, contrasted by cream sandstone ashlar dressings, with the corners of the openings being chamfered.
The main front elevation is symmetrical, composed of three bays. The central bay features a bowed projection housing a two-leaf door, with small windows on either side. Windows are also present in the outer bays. The roadside elevation incorporates a tripartite bowed window on the left and a bipartite window on the right. A piend-roofed porch is situated on the side, containing another doorway porch, flanked by windows in the outer bays.
The windows are sash and case type with an 8-pane glazing pattern. The roof is pyramidal and covered in grey slates, with a central ashlar stack. A similar-designed North Lodge exists, distinguished by natural harling and slates, providing architectural variation.
