Description
North Lodge at Keith Marischal is likely from around 1889, with the possibility of incorporating earlier building materials. It was probably designed by Peddie and Kinnear, who were working on the main house at Keith Marischal at that time. The lodge is a single-story building with a square plan, acting as a gate lodge. It is harled (roughcast) with dressed stone surrounds; the corners of the openings are chamfered. The main, front elevation is three bays and symmetrical, featuring a bowed entrance bay with a doorway flanked by small windows. The doorway has a two-leaf door, and the bay is topped with a conical roof. Windows are located in the outer bays. The roadside elevation includes a three-light bowed window to the right, with a blocking course, and a bipartite window to the left. A doorway, flanked by windows, is located at the centre of the rear elevation. The windows are sash and case windows with an eight-pane glazing pattern. The pyramidal roof is covered with Rosemary tiles, and there is an ashlar stack at the centre. A similar design was used for the South Lodge, but with painted harling and slates, creating a contrast in materials while maintaining a cohesive style.
