23 Croft Street, Dalkeith

21 Croft Street in Dalkeith is an earlier 19th-century pair of houses that are two stories tall and have four bays arranged in a 2-2 pattern. The buildings are constructed from stugged squared and coursed rubble, with the north and east elevations being pebble-dashed and featuring ashlar dressings. The door surrounds are made of concrete, and there are raised cills with first-floor lintels positioned at eaves level.

On the south elevation facing Croft Street, there are two doors—No 21 on the left and No 23 on the right—each with strip fanlights, located in the inner bays. The windows are regularly arranged on both the ground and first floors.

The west elevation is joined to Nos 17 and 19 Croft Street, while the south facade of Nos 21 and 23 projects forward. The east elevation is blank.

The windows feature a plate glass glazing pattern in sash and case style. The west gable has a coped skew and an ashlar gablehead stack, while the east gable has a harled skew and a gablehead stack. The roofs are covered with grey slates.
