Description
Mauldslie is a farmhouse dated 1836, featuring a two-storey, three-bay rectangular plan with various additions and alterations. The southern elevation is constructed from coursed, tooled sandstone, while the rest of the building is made from tooled rubble, with broached dressings, projecting cills, and long and short quoins.
The principal (south) elevation is symmetrical, with a harled porch that projects from the center bay of the ground floor. There is a window in the center and on the left return, a boarded timber door on the right return, and a window in each flanking bay. The first floor has regular fenestration.
The east elevation is also symmetrical and consists of two bays. It features regular fenestration on the ground floor and two blind windows on the first floor. There is a single-storey addition on the outer right, which includes a four-pane window on the left and a lean-to on the right.
The north elevation is asymmetrical and has two bays. A two-storey gabled bay is advanced to the right, with a window off-center to the left on the ground floor and a two-pane window off-center to the right on the first floor. There is a single-storey gabled bay advanced to the left, featuring a window on the left and a glazed timber door on the right. The center of the first floor has a window with a tooled lintel inscribed with "1836," along with a window in the flanking bay to the left. A lean-to addition is present on the outer left, which has a timber doorway.
The west elevation is asymmetrical and consists of a gabled single bay. It has a window off-center to the left on both the ground and first floors. An addition on the outer left features a bipartite window on the ground floor and a window above that breaks the eaves.
The farmhouse predominantly has twelve-pane timber lying pane sash and case windows on the ground floor and ten-pane lying pane sash and case windows on the first floor. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a lead ridge, with stone skews and tooled, coped gablehead stacks featuring circular cans. The rainwater goods are made from cast iron.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
To the north of the farmhouse is a steading. The west range is dated 1824, while the remainder is from the earlier 19th century. It is arranged in a U plan and constructed from random rubble with droved dressings. The dovecot is located to the south of the west range, with a cartshed and granary in the east range. The steading features irregular fenestration and boarded timber doors throughout. There is a single-storey and attic, two-bay bothy situated to the southeast of the steading, all topped with grey slate roofs and lead ridges.
