Description
Mid Kirk, located in Cathcart Square, Greenock, is a church built in 1760 with a rectangular plan and a stuccoed exterior. The church features a two-storey design with a painted ashlar Renaissance facade, highlighted by a tetrastyle Roman Ionic portico and a 146-foot spire. The design for the facade was supplied by Lord Cathcart, reportedly sourced from Bristol, while the body of the church was designed by James Ewing. The builders responsible for the galleries and seating were Anderson and Watt, and the spire was added in 1787, which slightly shortened the original 1760 design.
