Windyhill, Rowantreehill Road, Kilmacolm

Windyhill is a detached L-plan two-storey house built between 1900 and 1902, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in a severe "Modern Movement" style. The house features roughcast walls and a combination of pitched and flat roofs, with a flat roofed porch set behind a parapet. A long cat-slide gable extends to the northeast, while a two-storey apsidal stair tower is located to the north, accompanied by a wider and lower porch. The main entrance doorway is adorned with sandstone dressings. The windows consist of multi-paned timber sash and leaded casements of various sizes, framed by roughcast surrounds. A prominent large canted bay window is situated on the west elevation. Attached to the house is a single-storey washhouse and laundry. Inside, there are decorative elements designed by Mackintosh. The property is enclosed by a rubble boundary wall that features a curved dip with dressed stone coping. The outdoor garden space has also been designed by Mackintosh.
