Description
The stables, dating to circa 1826, are a near-square rubble structure with roughly tooled rubble dressings. Two entrances are visible, one from the road on the northwest side and another leading to the church path on the southeast side. The building is roofed with slate in a piended style.
Inside, the stable features a simple timber-ceilinged roof supported by chamfered wooden columns. These columns also served as tethering posts and incorporated slots for former trevises—partitions—providing accommodation for approximately 10 to 12 stalls. The floor is cobbled.
These stables represent an unusual survival, having been designed for temporary accommodation of riding horses during services at St Mary's Church. The building currently functions as a store, though it retains the traditional name of "stables".
