Description

The burial ground at Dalarossie Church dates back to 1790, with repairs made by George Rhind in 1856 and further work by W L Carruthers in 1904. The church is a simple rectangular structure oriented east-west, built from harl pointed rubble with ashlar dressings. On the north elevation, there is an off-centre gabled porch featuring a hoodmoulded segmental headed entrance. To the right of the porch, there is a wallhead stack, possibly from 1856, which has a reset worn initialled plaque in a gablet.

The south elevation has three irregularly spaced windows and a door on the west side, which is under a segmental headed hoodmould added in 1904, leading to the Session Room. There is a small gallery window in the east gable, and the church has 12-pane glazing and a slate roof.

Inside, the church has a simple re-cast interior that was likely reduced in size in 1904 when the Session Room was created. The tall narrow panelled 18th century pulpit is located against the west wall and features a panelled backboard and an octagonal sounding board with a panelled cornice, all finished with later varnished graining. The pulpit is accessed by a short flight of stairs with a mid-19th century balustrade. A circular stone font, roughly hewn from a boulder, is supported by a boulder plinth. The interior also includes a panelled dado, simple pews, and a barrel vaulted plaster ceiling with simple moulded details, likely from 1904.

The burial ground is enclosed by square rubble walls and features a pair of plain square rubble gate piers at the north entrance. The site contains mainly 19th and 20th century tombstones.
