Description
The Macdonald Memorial, located on Mitchell Hill in Dingwall, was designed by James Sandford Kay from Glasgow and is dated 1907. This tall Scottish Baronial tower features a square shape on a battered base, constructed from bullfaced rubble with polished ashlar dressings. The tower has a tall battered plinth that steps back to the main structure. It includes a corbelled upper storey, a balustrade, and a circular, crenellated stair turret that rises above the balustrade.
On the north elevation, there is a round-headed recessed entrance with heavy rusticated and cabled moulded architraves. Above the entrance is a memorial plaque topped with an ornate pediment. The windows on the first floor have similar detailing and are fitted with yetts, while slit windows provide light to the stairs.
