Description
The North Range at Boath House, likely designed by Archibald Simpson in 1830, consists of a range of buildings that include stables and a former carriage house, arranged at right angles to each other. A single carriage house and a hen house are positioned at an angle.
The stables are east-facing and feature a two-storey, eight-bay range constructed from pinned coursed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings, margins, and quoins. There are windows flanking the doorways in the outer bays, with four stable entrances set within segmental-headed recesses. Additionally, there are three small segmental-headed loft windows and an end stack, all beneath a piended slate roof.
The former carriage house range faces the former steading and is a two-storey, seven-bay structure with a south-facing elevation. It is built from stugged coursed rubble with tooled ashlar margins and quoins. Four of the eastern bays have been converted into a dwelling. The centre features three segmental-headed entrances, two of which are now blocked and replaced with a window and door to the dwelling. The first floor has small segmental-headed windows with nine-pane glazing, while the ground floor windows have twelve panes. The building also has a ridge stack and a piended slate roof.
At the rear, there is a derelict steading that is square in shape. The single carriage house has a wide segmental-headed entrance facing south, constructed from pinned rubble with tooled ashlar dressings, and topped with a piended slate roof.
The hen house is a small structure made of rubble, featuring paired centre arched entrances, each segmental-headed and closed with vented wooden doors, also covered by a piended slate roof.
