Description
Higher Mill is a pair of mills from the early 19th century located on a sloping site, sharing the same mill lade. Both mills are constructed from rubble and have harl pointing with stugged dressings. Each mill features iron mill wheels without buckets on the west gable.
The top mill is two storeys high with three bays and includes a wooden lean-to. The lower mill also has two storeys and an attic, with five bays, an additional door on the ground floor, and a hoist loft entrance at the apex of the west gable. Both mills are topped with slate roofs.
Adjacent to the mills is Mill Cottage, a small single-storey cottage from the early 19th century. It has three bays with a central door and flanking windows—one with an 8-pane casement and the other with a 12-pane sash. The cottage features end stacks and a corrugated iron roof.
