Description
Faire Na Sgurr is an irregular L-plan house located in Arisaig, designed by George Jack and dated 1903. The building is mainly two-storey with an attic and constructed of rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The south-facing elevations are asymmetrical, featuring five bays. At the center, there is a later projecting two-storey sun-room, flanked by four substantial gabled dormers.
The entrance on the east gable is masked by a single-storey porch that is accessed from a glazed verandah. This porch is illuminated by a long multi-pane window, and its canted angle displays a datestone with a carved relief of St Michael along with a long poetic inscription in Gaelic.
At the rear, a service court is dominated by a high, corbelled three-storey chimney gable that includes a small viewing platform. This gable features a crowstepped wallhead and an apex stack. The house has multi-pane glazing and slate roofs of varying pitches, with the northern roof sweeping down to the ground floor, interrupted by various gabled dormers.
