Description
Roskill House is a tall, three-story, five-bay house dating to 1784. The front (south) elevation is of pale sandstone with cherry-red pointing, while the gables are harled. Polished ashlar dressings accentuate the facade. Five 19th-century piended and raised dormerheads have been added to the second floor windows. A single-story addition, constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, was built in the later 19th century. Slate roofs cover the entire building.
Inside, the house features enriched ceilings, plain panelling, and early doors. A re-used marriage stone, inscribed with "WMK 1753 MMK", was inserted above the downstairs fireplace. The skewputt on the southwest side bears a date. The New Statistical Account of 1845, page 61, provides additional details about the property, which was formerly known as Wester Suddie.
