Description
The stables at Glenferness House are designed in a shallow H-plan, featuring an east-facing U-plan court that is enclosed by a single-storey and attic range. The structure is built from mixed rubble, with grey granite dressings that have been tooled. The central block has five bays and includes a round-headed entrance with a key-stone, flanked by giant pilasters and long windows that are topped with bracketed cornices.
The south range contains a single-storey and attic, three-bay cottage that includes a carriage house. There is an additional fourth bay with blind windows located in the east gable and south, which opens onto the court. The cottage features a corniced centre door and has three bargeboarded dormers that break the wide eaves.
In the north range of the stable court, there is a segmental-headed carriage house. The gable ends have band courses that create the impression of shallow pediments, and the building has a corniced ridge and end stacks, with joisted eaves and a slate roof.
