Description
The Corn Mill and Kiln at Mill of Tore is a small rectangular mill dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, likely incorporating earlier materials and built on an earlier site. The structure is constructed from harl pointed rubble with roughly tooled dressings. The rear of the building is positioned against a slope, providing access to the loft.
A breast shot wheel is located at the southwest gable and is fed by a lade chute. Extending from the northeast gable is a square kiln, which has a corrugated iron roof, while the kiln itself is slated. Some machinery from the mill still remains.
Adjacent to the mill is Mill Cottage, a single-storey, three-bay cottage built in the mid-19th century, which includes a three-bay byre range extending from the west gable. The cottage is finished in white-washed rubble, with a central door to the dwelling that is sheltered by a gabled porch. It features four-pane glazing and end stacks, with a slate roof on the dwelling and a corrugated iron roof on the byre.
