Description

The Kincardine Parish Church, dated 1799 and likely designed by James Boag, is a simple rectangular building, now disused as a place of worship. Alterations and repairs were carried out in 1862 by Alexander Maitland. The exterior is harled, with tooled ashlar margins. The south elevation is symmetrical, featuring six bays with doorways in the outer bays and four windows, the central pair being round-headed. A single window is present in the east gable, all with multi-pane glazing. A 19th-century bellcote sits at the apex of the west gable, topped with a weather vane, and the roof is slate-covered.

The church interior contains no remaining fittings.

The surrounding burial ground is enclosed by a coped rubble wall constructed in 1838. Within the burial ground are various interesting tombs and monuments, dating from the 17th century, including the Matheson burial enclosure of 1854. The initials "M A G" carved on the dated door lintel of the eastern bay likely represent Master Andrew Gallie, the Minister of Kincardine Parish in 1799, who held a Master of Art degree from King’s College, Aberdeen. The parish formerly lay within Ross and Cromarty County.
