Description
Alness Parish Manse is a building dating from 1791, with repairs and additions made in 1832 and again in 1869 by W C Joass. It is a two-storey structure over a raised basement, featuring three wide bays. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings. The slightly advanced gabled center bay has a central door that is approached by a flight of steps, flanked by narrow blind windows. There is a blind window on the first floor and a blind bull's eye window in the apex, which also has a stack. The ground floor features tripartite windows, and the ground and first floor windows are linked by cill bands. The building has rusticated quoins and an original palmette motif. The windows have four-pane glazing, and there are corniced end stacks. The roof is slate, and there are later wings added to the rear, which mainly have three elevations.
