Description
The Jetty at Rubha Reidh Lighthouse is part of a lighthouse complex completed in 1912, designed by engineer David A Stevenson. The complex features a white tower that stands 25 metres high, along with a two-storey, two-bay accommodation block and single-storey, single-bay wings, all topped with flat roofs. One of the wings has a modern glazed lean-to extension. The buildings are all whitewashed, with yellow-painted detailing on the long and short quoins, window and door surrounds, base course, and cornice. In 1986, part of the quarter deck attached to the tower, including the foghorn house, was removed.
Approximately 400 metres northeast of the lighthouse is a concrete jetty, which is connected to the lighthouse by a single trackway. A tramway that once ran along the incline to the jetty from the haulage engine house was removed sometime after 1968. The lighthouse overlooks the Minch and the entrance to Loch Ewe.
