The Pines, Sandwood, Delnies

Sandwood, located in Delnies, is a house designed in the Scottish Revival style by W R Davidson and dated 1907. The building features harled walls with tooled pink local granite dressings and has an asymmetrical shallow H-plan layout with two storeys and an attic. The north front has a near-centre doorway with a depressed arch set in a recessed ashlar bay, which is adorned with decorative lozenge detailing above. This doorway is flanked by gabled and crowstepped bays, and there is a shallow two-storey turret in the left re-entrant.

The south elevation consists of seven bays, with the central three bays featuring paired French windows and three first-floor windows that rise through the eaves, topped with crowstepped shaped gablets. The flanking wings are asymmetrical gabled; the left wing has corbelled detailing, while the right wing showcases a shaped and corbelled first floor with cable moulding decoration. There are two later dormers on the south side and one on the north, all fitted with 8-pane sashes. The roof has ridge and end stacks with lozenge detailing, including a large crowstepped stack on the east gable, and is covered with deep brown stone slates. Additionally, there is a single-storey service wing to the east.

The lodge, which is a single-storey structure with five narrow bays, is also harled. It features a wider central bay made of coursed rubble with lozenge detailing and a recessed centre door. The lodge includes 4-pane glazing, rear stacks, and a piended platform graded slate roof, using similar slates to those on the house, with a stone ridge.
