Description
St Callan's Church in Rogart is a simple oblong church, likely designed by James Boag and dated 1777, with alterations made in 1816 and further changes in the 19th century. The church underwent repairs from 1915 to 1916 and was restored in 1955. The exterior is harled with tooled ashlar margins and features a symmetrical south elevation with six bays. The central area has paired long windows flanked by doors, which likely replaced former gallery doors. There is an original window in the centre of the west gable, topped by a late 19th century bellcote, and paired late 19th century windows in the east gable. The entrance has double leaf plank doors with multi-pane glazing, and the roof is slate.
Inside, the church has a simple interior that was recast in the late 19th century. Notable features include an imposing panelled hexagonal pulpit with a panelled backboard and a hexagonal sounding board with a moulded cornice. The interior also contains plain pine pews and a communion table, along with a boarded ceiling from the 1915-16 repairs. Stained glass can be found in the east windows.
