Description
Morvich Lodge is a rambling two-storey house dating from 1812, with later additions. It was originally built as a three-bay front with harled walls and tooled ashlar margins. A square porch with a pointed-headed window and a side entrance obscures the central front door, while a gabled bay extends to the left (south). A wider two-bay southwest-facing front has two substantial later canted bay windows on the ground floor. Some windows in the rear wings extend through the eaves into gablets. The windows are mostly 12-pane sash windows. The roof is slate-covered, with ridge and end stacks. Morvich was built by Lord Stafford as an occasional residence, and subsequently occupied by his factor, Patrick Sellers. James Loch’s “Improvements on The Estates of Lord Stafford” (1820) contains further details (Appendix pp 13-14, p. 15).
