Description
The Finnieston Cantilever Crane, located at Stobcross Quay in Glasgow, was built in 1926 and completed in 1931 by Cowans Sheldon and Co Ltd, under the supervision of Daniel Fife, Mechanical Engineer to the Clyde Navigation Trust. This impressive 175-ton cantilever quayside crane features a lattice, steel girder tower. It is notable for having the only personnel lift ever fitted to a British crane. The tower supports a roller track that allows the asymmetrical cantilever truss gib to rotate, with a motor room and counterweight positioned at the short end. Additionally, it is the only British crane equipped with a horizontal rail for the Jigger hoist, which is used for handling light loads.
