Description

150 Hope Street in Glasgow is a classical house dating from around 1830 that has been converted into offices. The building has three storeys and a half-sunk basement, with a total of five by seven bays. The façade is made of polished ashlar stone, with a channelled finish at the basement and a droved ashlar rear elevation.

The central entrance features a Roman Doric doorpiece with a mutule cornice, situated at the top of steps that oversail the basement at No. 160 West George Street. There is a pilastered doorpiece at No. 150 Hope Street. The second floor has a plain entablature, while the third floor features a cill band. The eaves cornice is complemented by a parapet that is raised with a balustrade in the central section facing West George Street. All windows are sash and case, set within architraves and fitted with plate glass. The building has axial corniced stacks.

On the elevation facing West George Street, there are four corbelled, corniced windows flanking the entrance, with additional corniced windows above; the second floor features plain windows. The elevation facing Hope Street has seven bays arranged in a 3-2-2 pattern, with the outer bays projecting forward. The first bay from the south is blind at ground level, and the second bay is blind at the second floor. The northern outer bays contain two-light stone mullioned windows. There is a reduced wallhead stack and cast-iron railings present.

The return elevation to West Regent Lane features four-pane glazing.
