Description
44-46 Ashton Lane in Glasgow is a building likely constructed for Barr & Stroud, who occupied it from 1894. It is said to be their original premises and is currently a wine bar and restaurant, having undergone little alteration during the conversion. The building features polychrome brick and is situated on a gushet site in Ashton Lane. It stands two to three storeys tall with a complex roof that is slated and has a steep pitch at the front, complete with inset dormers. This roof integrates with an M-shaped roof over former workshops at the rear, which have long rooflights. The building has a narrow canted angle, and the main elevations are also canted on plan, consisting of two wall-planes. The front has recently painted details and a wide opening to the right in a three-storey bay. The glazing is mostly small-paned, and the original stacks remain intact.
